my name is mr ow, and i am a physics teacher in singapore. i enjoy exploring new ways to talk about ideas, making learning both accessible and enjoyable for every student.
my main pedagogical focus is on designing learning experiences that integrate engagement and scaffolding to build student confidence. i hope that the confidence cultivated in the classroom will not only enhance learning outcomes, but also inspire students to become resilient, self-directed lifelong learners.
my work first examines how structured learning experiences and purposeful engagement shape students’ willingness to participate, persist, and make sense of complex ideas.
thereafter, i study the role of instructional scaffolding, such as task breakdown and gradual release (a teaching approach in which responsibility for learning is progressively shifted from the teacher to the student), in promoting faster and clearer learning.
the final phase involves examining how these approaches influence my students’ confidence, and how changes in confidence can sustain their readiness to learn in class and support improved academic performance over time.
i also actively engage in other pedagogical pursuits, continually exploring their effectiveness and learning from the insights they generate. a curated collection of documentation and reflections can be found here.
